"The forest calls to me as I wander into the woods. The madrones are nestled beside the douglas firs and sword ferns. They spiral up to the top canopy of the forest.
The fog sits on the rocks as a I breathe in the forest air. I watch the hummingbirds buzz and chirp, playing tag around the madrone's branches. The budding berries are starting to emerge in their dark green bouquet. The songbirds and other animals will search along these branches once they have ripened.
As the seasons progress the bark changes from bright almost florescent spring green to yellow to orange to red and back to a mahogany brown. They adorn themselves with fragrant cream colored flowers that will turn to bright red and orange berries. The shiny leathery leaves change from green to a crispy burnt orange and drop to create the crunch and soil that I walk on.
The connection I feel to this forest, this madrone, and this fog is what I need. The forest has rejuvenated me better than a cup of coffee in the city would. I thank mother earth for this day and feel ready to create something that will hopefully bring joy to somebody also wandering in their wilderness." - B. Bell
When we moved to Oregon, we were lucky to have found a beautiful log home on a butte in the forest. We found our forever home for our family!! After fighting poison oak and more poison oak, interesting plants began to grow.
Coming from the Midwest, many plants that were growing on our land were unknown to us. After studying and reading up on some of them, we realized that mullein, which we had considered a weed, had medicinal properties and were used to pack wounds before the progression of western medicine came and changed our world. We decided to make some salves with it, the magic in a mullein salve!!! It cures burns, scratches, rashes, even stings!
After making many salves for my family, I tried making body sprays from a huge shrub of rosemary that smelled wonderful and had appreciated our arrival.. Then lemon balm, chamomile, lavender, and roses started to grow with each season as we cleared out the blackberries and poison oak... mother earth was awakening..
Then for a birthday gift, I was given a still! Now we have hydrosols!!!! More ingredients to make better products!
Everyday is a new discovery and a new opportunity to make something beautiful. Come wander in this wilderness with us, more discoveries await!
